![]() What was released as a final product didn't even deserve to be called a beta. Maybe the PC version rectified much of this (as I said, I haven't played it) but either way, the 360 version was effectively broken. Nothing flowed well or seemed natural in the game, and everything outside of the main basic storyline seemed like it was really rushed and crammed into the game, as none of it was ever explained or inserted in a natural fashion into Mass Effect. carrying packages, talking to reporters etc.) - all of which seemed like an afterthought on the developer's part. Then there's the paragon vs renegade choices, the multiple character types/abilities, and of course, the side quests (on the barren planets) and the extra tasks (ie. I mean, it may not have been that complex relative to some other RPGs but when the game just throws things in without teaching you the mechanics and nuances of what's going on, I consider that a poor decision (or maybe laziness) on the developer's part.įor example, the whole monetary system (weapons purchases, inventory, upgrades, how omni-gel is acquired and used etc.) was an absolute mess. ![]() I don't think that you could have a more straightforward shooter/RPG than Mass Effect.Ĭlick to expand.ME wasn't straight-forward at all. Except from the learning curve, seeing that there wasn't any to begin with. Eveything you are complaining about was addressed in the PC version. Given my experience with Mass Effect, Bioware would be far more well-suited as a sci-fi film company rather than as a video game developer. I really wanted to like the game, seeing how it has a good storyline, endless dialogue, a very well-written and well-researched science/space background (as an astrophysics major this thoroughly impressed me), good music, and interesting characters but when your gameplay sucks (to put it nicely), none of that matters. A good storyline doesn't make up for horrible control mechanics, continual glitches (both graphically and functionally), a piss-poor learning curve, and game-wrecking developmental decisions. I haven't played it on PC so I can't comment there but as far as the 360 version goes, the game was an absolute mess.
